Goodbye, July

Oh July… you’re over tomorrow.

I think I’ll spend today lingering a little longer.

There’s something about July that invites you to stay. Long evenings. Warm sunsets. Windows down. Time outside. The gardens are full, the trees are green, and life seems to whisper, there's no need to rush.

I love August too. It brings its own beauty. But school supplies appear on the shelves, calendars begin to fill, summer starts packing its bags.

July doesn’t ask us to think much about what’s next. It simply invites us to be present, to savor the last sip of lemonade, take one more evening walk, watch one more sunset, and linger a little longer.

Maybe that’s one of the reasons I love it so much.

Sometimes I wonder if heaven will feel a little like a perpetual July… minus the blazing heat, of course. No endings. No countdowns. No anxious thoughts about what tomorrow holds.

“These are the singers… they were employed in that work day and night.”

"It was ordained in the temple that the sacred song should never cease. The singers continually praised the Lord, whose mercy endures forever. As His mercy never ceased to rule by day or by night, neither did the music cease in its holy ministry."

The ceaseless song of Zion’s temple contains a lesson for us. We too are forever debtors to mercy, and we should see to it that our gratitude never fails.

“Around the earth, as the sun scatters his light, his beams awaken grateful believers to tune their morning hymn, so that the saints' perpetual praise is kept up at all hours. They swathe our globe in a mantle of thanksgiving, and girdle it with a golden belt of song.”

Oh, what a privilege that I can be a part of that heavenly chorus of eternal hallelujahs.

Not only does it bring glory to the Giver of life, but praise is also a gift to me. It cheers the day and brightens the night. It lightens toil and softens sorrow. It sheds a sanctifying radiance over every circumstance.

We always have something to sing about, present joys, past deliverances, and future hopes.

As July slips away, I don’t want to rush into the next month without noticing the goodness of God in this one. Even after all that has been lost, there is still mercy for today, bright hope for tomorrow and  and a song of praise to sing.
